FAQ
How often do I need to add water?
This will depend on your plant growth and types of plants you place in the system. As plants grow bigger, they will use more water and fruiting plants generally consume more water than leafy greens or herbs. We recommend checking the water on a weekly basis. At most you should add water every two weeks, and ensure the water level is near the top of the box reserviour.
Note that the pump will not work in a dry environment. If the pump runs dry it will damage the pump and void the manufacturer's warranty.
Do I need to change the water?
We recommend that the water is completely changed every three months. A complete reset is good practice in hydroponics. We also recommend repurposing the water for your soil plants as there are available nutrients that they can use.
How often do I need to clean the system?
We recommend cleaning the system once a year for indoors. This can be done by removing the plants, and cleaning all parts with water and your preferred cleaning solution, e.g. soap, vinegar, etc.Cleaning the planting box is very convenient and can be done directly by hosing it down.
What kinds of plants can it grow?
In most cases, the answer is yes. However, if your region experiences water quality issues or if the water is rich in limestone (calcium), we suggest filtering the water prior to using the basin. Besides water filtration, we have also tested other straightforward solutions to secure suitable water, such as collecting rainwater or air conditioning condensate, or simply using distilled water.
Where can I get sponges, seeds, and fertilizers?
You can get several types of seeds like buckwheat, sinapis, flax, watercress, chia etc.at your local health food store. Plants, grass seeds, and other types of seeds can be found at your local plant nursery. Although both seeds and plants can also be purchased online. We also plan to provide a list of our recommendations .
Can I use normal tap water?
In most cases, the answer is yes. However, if your region experiences water quality issues or if the water is rich in limestone (calcium), we suggest filtering the water prior to using the basin. Besides water filtration, we have also tested other straightforward solutions to secure suitable water, such as collecting rainwater or air conditioning condensate, or simply using distilled water.
Can it be used to grow indoors and outdoors?
This really depends on the type of plant. We recommend growing on your terraplanter indoors and in a well-lit area. Despite our recommendation for indoor growing, we have also successfully grown multiple plants outdoors. When growing outdoors you should take care to try and avoid strong winds and direct sunlight for long durations.
Can I use the same sponge for multiple harvests?
When you cut your plant at the root (full harvest), you will need a new biodegradable sponge for the plant to come after. A new sponge is recommended because you have organic material in the used pod, which may rot and lead to unwanted problems for the other plants in Linne. Should something like this happen, you can easily change the entire water of the system.
How loud is the "noise" of the water pump?
We considered multiple sound insulation systems when designing Linne. According to measurements, it is approximately around 45dB. You must bring your ears close to the top cover to check if the water pump is running.
Can I use my own seeds?
Of course, you can! The seeds we suggest have been tested and are best for Linnne, but you can also use other seeds. We're eager to see your experiments in the forest.
